Greenwashing

An atmospheric walking simulator inside a giant washing machine, where sarcasm and deception take center stage.

"Greenwashing" is an experimental game that explores deceptive practice of greenwashing, showcasing its various manifestations. As players navigate the immersive world, they gather information to unveil the tactics employed by the fictional company 'Cubicar' to mislead consumers into believing their products are environmentally friendly. The ultimate objective is to expose Cubicar's misdeeds to Camerahead, a symbolic entity representing regulatory bodies responsible for ensuring companies adhere to eco-friendly standards.

Design Process

Project Description

Greenwashing is developed as a semester project to be an experimental game that revolves around any topic concerning the global warming. In this project I have collaborated with two artists, a programmer and a game designer who focused on the narrative design and writing.


Design approach

  • Short experience resembling an artistic exhibition, offering a sarcastic view on greenwashing

  • To keep things experimental, I decided to have an entity in the game called “Camera-Head" that the players scream at it as a mechanic to guide it to certain locations. (the players represent the activism aspect of the subject while the ‘Camera-Head’ embodies modern-day media)


Challenges

  • Learning Unreal Engine on the spot and using blueprints for the first time

  • Combining an experimental approach with a topic often treated seriously


Greatest achievement

  • Implemented interaction systems and created cutscenes in Unreal Engine

  • Sound design and implementation for an atmospheric experience

  • Acquired basic skills in developing a game in Unreal Engine using blueprints
